Villeroy & Boch combines heritage and modernity
Special products for a special year: Villeroy & Boch is celebrating 275 years of history in 2023. At first glance, this global company is barely recognisable from its origins as a small ceramic production works in Lorraine. But on closer inspection, many amazing constants emerge: love for the home, a constant quest for progress and an unerring sense for designs destined to become classics. In its anniversary year, Villeroy & Boch is looking back to iconic decors from the past – and treating them to a contemporary upgrade for the modern age.
La Boule Paradiso
Even on its own, La Boule is an enduring piece of the company’s history – and a perfect example of how to create contemporary new interpretations of design icons. The original model – called “Die Kugel” – was developed in 1971 by the designer Helen von Boch: as a tableware set consisting of 24 individual pieces that come together to create a perfect sphere. It was hardly surprising that the idea caused such a sensation! The modern La Boule reveals a departure from the quirky colours of the 1970s along with radically simplified functionality. As a dinner set for two people, La Boule is ideal for everyday use while still retaining its iconic character. In the anniversary year, La Boule is featuring in a limited edition with the historic Paradiso decor. Paradiso was a classic blue copperplate design, an imaginative arrangement of different flowers grouped around an exotic-looking bird. The decor has been given a modern upgrade for the anniversary year. In combination with a Japanese pattern of stylised waves reminiscent of overlapping feathers, and the highlight colour of orange, La Boule Paradiso becomes a highly desirable statement piece. The Birthday Cake Paradiso follows the same concept: a flat plate, a bowl, an unhandled mug and a taper candleholder come together to create a birthday cake of several layers – to celebrate the anniversary in fitting style.
Anniversary cups with favourite decors
